What is an Eating Disorder?

An eating disorder is a mental health condition where a person uses food control to cope with feelings and situations. It can involve eating too much or too little, worrying about weight or body shape, or developing routines around food that interfere with daily life. Eating disorders can affect anyone, but they are more common in teenagers and young adults.

How We Can Help

While we are not medical professionals, we work alongside doctors, therapists, dietitians, and support organisations to make sure our care fits into your overall recovery plan.

Eating disorder problems

Eating disorders can have serious and often life-threatening effects on a person’s physical and mental health, as well as a profound impact on families and society. They can lead to severe malnutrition, heart problems, organ damage, infertility, depression, anxiety, social withdrawal, and, in some cases, premature death. While Meemanda Rose Homecare is not a medical or specialist treatment service, we can provide compassionate, confidential support at home for people living with eating disorders. Working closely with healthcare professionals, dietitians, and support organisations, we help individuals maintain daily routines, encourage healthy eating habits, and involve families in a respectful and supportive way, either after hospital discharge or as part of ongoing care in the community.

Our Approach

We focus on the person, not just the condition. That means taking time to listen, involving you in decisions, and respecting your choices. Our CARING values – Kindness, Attentiveness, Respect, Integrity, Nurturing, and Guidance – guide every visit we make.

Your care plan will be reviewed regularly so it continues to meet your needs, and we will always communicate openly with you and any professionals involved in your care.

often linked with other psychological difficulties

Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions often linked with other psychological difficulties. These issues can influence one another, making recovery more challenging and highlighting the need for joined-up care. At Meemanda Rose Homecare we take both the mental and physical aspects of an eating disorder into account when providing home care.
